I have spent much of my professional life studying how people function: physically, cognitively, and in the patterns they develop under pressure.
A background across disciplines
I trained in engineering, completed a doctorate in biomedical engineering, studied philosophy, and graduated from medical school. I also taught biomedical engineering, including at Florida International University. Currently, I am a professor of medicine at Queen’s University in Barbados. Those experiences influence how I think about scientific evidence, human experience, and the limits of any one intervention.
Since November 1996, I have practiced hypnosis and related work. During that time, I have conducted more than 44,000 sessions.
What happens when we work together
I want to understand your objectives, the circumstances in which the difficulty appears, and what you have already tried. When hypnosis is appropriate, we use it deliberately. I recommend a follow-up after the initial experience and adjust subsequent work based on the response and desired outcomes.
I prefer a defined arc: discover how you respond, work intensively for personal transformation, gradually integrate progress into your new life, and finish when further sessions are no longer needed.
These appointments are not medical visits. My MD and PhD are educational qualifications I have earned over the years. Through this website I do not provide medical examination, diagnosis, prescriptions, management of underlying conditions, psychiatric care, psychological treatment, or psychotherapy. Hypnotherapy focuses on stress, distress, and learned responses associated with difficult circumstances and health challenges.
For symptoms requiring medical diagnosis or treatment, your healthcare professional remains responsible. With appropriate authorization, coordination with your provider can be discussed when useful.
Location and languages
First appointments are at my Doral office or by Zoom. Sessions are offered in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. Other locations for later sessions may be available, but not for the initial booking.
Important distinction
Despite the term medical hypnotherapy, these appointments are hypnotherapy services, not medical visits, medical diagnosis or treatment, psychological care, or psychotherapy. The focus is stress, distress, and learned responses associated with health challenges. They complement rather than replace appropriate professional care.
